School rush for Rainbows Derby bubble fun
A rush of pupils from a local primary school are set to take part in the 5k feast of bubbly fun at Derby’s Markeaton Park – to support youngsters across the region with life-limiting conditions.
Children from Richard Crosse Church of England Primary School in King’s Bromley heard about the support offered to poorly youngsters across the East Midlands by Rainbows – and 19 pupils, aged between six and 11 years have signed up to take part in the event with their parents to help raise funds.
School head, Nicola Jarrett, commented: “The school is very proud of those children taking part in the Derby Bubble Rush event to raise money to help poorly youngsters.
“The school supports several charities and we try to make our children aware that there are people in the wider community less fortunate that can benefit from a little help.”
The school children are set to be joined by hundreds of families at the charity event at Markeaton Park on Saturday, 7 July, a 5k course of frothy fun. Along the way participants will encounter foam cannons blasting out walls of foaming multi-coloured bubbles, which are family and wheelchair friendly. Organisers hope the event will raise at least £30,000 for the charity, which supports children and young people from across six counties, including Derbyshire.
Victoria Brunt, Rainbows Events Coordinator, said: “We think the school is amazing. Support for the event is always great. But we’re hoping a record number of families will sign up to help raise money for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses – and have fun.
“You don’t have to run. You can walk, even dance around the course! It’s not about speed or fitness, it’s about celebration, having fun with friends and family – and raising a smile for Rainbows.”
And it is not too late to enter! Registration is £25 for over 16s, £7.50 for under 16s and under 3s go free. All participants receive a free tee-shirt and medal.
