Rainbows launches birthday Bake Off
As the Great British Bake Off prepares to launch its latest series, we ‘knead’ people in the East Midlands to get involved in a special Bake Off.
This year, we celebrate our 25th anniversary. A competition will take place at our Community Open Day on Saturday 21 September, which we hope will tickle the ‘fondant fancy’ of all cake makers and bakers.
Visitors are encouraged to bring along their completed culinary creations and the contest will be judged by bereaved parents Tina Wilkinson and Angie Gillespie, along with celebrity baker Fiona Cairns and former cricketer Matthew Hoggard, who are both our Patrons. Fiona, who shot to fame after bakery Fiona Cairns Ltd was commissioned to make the royal wedding cake for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will also be creating a special birthday cake masterpiece for visitors.
Rainbows Events Manager Nancy Lillington encourage people to get a slice of the action. She said: “There will be three categories: The show-stopper – taste doesn’t matter here. Instead, it’s all about how the cake looks. These cakes will be sold in the marquee post judging; Tastes so Sweet – create a cake which tastes delicious no matter how it looks and The Children’s competition for 16-years-old and under, the cakes in this competition will be judged both on their looks and how good they taste. We hope everyone gets baking and joins us for this fun competition.”
Entry is £3 per cake for adults and £2 per cake for children.
The event takes place at Rainbows Hospice, Lark Rise, Loughborough from 10.30am – 3pm. For more information, visit rainbows.co.uk/rainbows-bake
