Pupils at a Leicester primary school have been creating a Guy for the Rainbows Children’s Hospice’s annual bonfire and fireworks display.

Children at Stoneygate School, in Great Glen, have created the giant 10ft guy. It will be the star of the show at the charity event, Pennies for the Guy, on Saturday 5 November at Leicester Racecourse.

Head of Year 8 David Palmer said: “We have been involved with Rainbows for several years and it is always great fun to make the Guy. The children really get behind the project and they know that they are doing something worthwhile to help other children.”

Victoria Brunt, event organiser at Rainbows, added: “The Guy, which has been named Joseph because he looks like he is wearing a technicolour dreamcoat, is fantastic. So much work has been put in to creating it and we would like to thank all of the children who have been involved.”

The event usually raises more than £40,000 towards supporting life-limited children, young people and their families who use Rainbows. Gates open at 5.30pm ahead of two firework displays and a huge bonfire. There will also be food, bars, stalls and a funfair. Tickets on the night cost £7.50 or £25 for a family ticket. Children under four are free.
