Pochin gathers trade in Leicester for 150th
The East Midlands plumbing and heating trade supplier and bathroom retailer Pochin has marked the end of its 150th birthday celebrations with a dinner for suppliers and customers.
The Lord Mayor of Leicester Councillor Abdul Osman and Lady Mayoress Shaina Osman were guests of honour at the party attended by more than 250 people from the trade in the Midlands and beyond.
Chairman and managing director David Pochin said: “When Robert Pochin senior opened the doors for business in the 1860s life was different then, more than we could ever imagine.
“He would have no idea that 150 years later assembled customers, suppliers, friends and guests would be celebrating what he started.
“Thank you to all who have joined us to celebrate reaching this truly amazing milestone in the company’s history. And thanks go to our supplier sponsors and partners who have been so generous in their support for the Dinner.
“Service and trust have always been the ethos of the company, and we would be nothing without out fantastic customers. They gave us a chance in the 19th century and they continue to give us a chance to serve them every day.”
David, the sixth generation Pochin to run the independent business, added: “It is a great privilege to be running the company. I think my forebears would be proud to see this event and know the company continues to prosper.”
A raffle raised more than £2,700 for the East Midlands children’s hospice Rainbows, one of the charities Pochin has raised money for during its 150th year celebrations.
The Lord Mayor of Leicester, who drew the raffle, said: “For Pochin not only to survive for 150 years in business but to thrive and provide employment to generations of people from Leicester and the region is an achievement worthy of great celebration.”
More than 30 suppliers and partners from the industry sponsored the event at the Leicester Marriott, which was also attended by representatives of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce and Leicestershire Cares.
In January Pochin held a celebration for its staff, with 20 staff given long service awards. The 20 staff and managing director David Pochin have clocked up a combined 500 years with the firm.
