Mickleover Golf Club raise thousands for Rainbows

Despite an array of fundraising events being cancelled due to Covid-19, members of Mickleover Golf Club have raised £13,008 for Rainbows.

Mr Captain Robert Woolley and Lady Captain Janet Grayburn chose us as their charity of the year for 2020.

Although events such as music night and a race night were cancelled, the golf club were still able to fundraise with lots of activities including quiz nights, golf events, raffles and by selling insect houses, planters and bird houses. There was also a collection in memory of member Mary Woollaston, who died in May 2020, which raised over £1,086.

Last year’s Derby Abseil and 10K were cancelled but people still pledged sponsorship to those who were due to take part and Firs Farm Nurseries, of Scropton, also distributed plants and compost and made a donation.

Lady Captain said: “It is to the credit of Mickleover Golf Club that we were able to maintain certainty out of uncertainty and produce such a wonderful outcome for a very deserving charity.”

Alison Furlong, Head of Community and Events at Rainbows, added: “In what has been one of the toughest fundraising years, the members of Mickleover Golf Club have done an incredible job. On behalf of all of the children, young people and their families who use Rainbows, I would like to say thank you. Without the fundraising of our supporters, we are unable to provide the services we do and touch the lives of so many.”
