East Midlands businesses and groups help to raise £100,000

Businesses, schools and groups have helped raise £100,000 for us by taking part in our ‘Where’s it Bin?’ scheme.

In August 2015, we launched our ‘Where’s It Bin?’ campaign. During that time, around 260 organisations have taken part, some more than once.

‘Where’s it Bin?’ sees us drop three branded wheelie bins – Barry, Bertie and Betty – to businesses, organisations, schools and clubs for one week. People are encouraged to fill them with bags of unwanted saleable goods for our charity shops. At the end of the week, we collect the bins and all the donations.

Almost 10,500 bags from across the East Midlands have been donated with the stock worth over £100,000 to date. If all the empty bins were stacked on top of each other, the total height would equate to the height of three Empire State Buildings.

Tom Stanyard, Corporate Fundraiser at Rainbows, said: “We are delighted to announce that businesses, schools and groups in Leicestershire have helped to raise such an incredible amount.

“We thank all of them for looking after Barry, Bertie and Betty, but also want to thank everyone who has donated their unwanted items, you have made a huge difference to the work we do at our hospice and to the lives of our children and young people.

“The bins are always looking for somewhere new to visit and we try to make it as easy as possible for you. By having our wheelie good friends come to you, means people who want to donate their unwanted items don’t have to go out of their way to do so.”
