Rainbows offers a sibling support service for the brothers and sisters of the babies, children and young people that use our service. We recognise that siblings sometimes have some common issues and experiences where they need extra support and benefit from sharing those experiences.

The Sibling Support Worker predominately provides one-to-one support in school or at home. They work with the family and wider team to identify the needs of the sibling and will work with them for a period of time to provide support for any issues identified. All siblings regardless of age may be offered some support from Rainbows, although this may be tailored differently depending on their age and may just be signposting or advice for the siblings or parents.

Group events again are for all siblings, bereaved and non-bereaved but these do have an age limit and are offered to siblings aged five to 18.

We currently offer this service for up to five years post bereavement. The groups are an opportunity to gain peer support from other siblings who are going through similar situations. The main aim of the events is to have fun, but activities are also provided to enable siblings to talk about and share their experiences with support from Rainbows staff.

They go to the sibling group and it is so important for them to know they aren’t alone, that there are other children out there who have poorly brothers or sisters. It is a relief for them to know that it is normal and to make special friends with special connections.
